It’s 2 O’clock on a Thursday afternoon, 10/3/13 and this is the error message I am still seeing on my computer screen when I try to log on to the NY State Health Exchange website.
I hate to say this, but I give up. And I am certain millions more of us are giving up also.
President Obama said that if we like our current health insurance, we get to keep it. I wouldn’t have to log on to the Marketplace for anything. I was supposed to get to keep my original health insurance policy.
As of December 31, 2013 my fantastic health insurance policy, that my husband and I have had for the past eleven years comes to an end. Period. The company will no longer insure us. Since this is day three and I still can’t get into the NY State Health Care Exchange, I set out to see if I could just buy the god-damn insurance and get on with it. My current insurance company will no longer cover my area. I was told that areas have now become ‘mapped’ and I had to find another company. I called the old standbys and was again told that they would not be covering my area anymore.
I was directed to einsurance.com. I found the ‘metal’ choices I liked (platinum, gold, silver, bronze are considered the ‘metal’ choices) but when I clicked on to see what doctors and hospitals were available by doing a 100 mile radius search, I sadly found out that all of the insurance choices DID NOT COVER MY AREA. WTF???? I was also informed that New York was not part of the 36 states that would give me a subsidy unless I went on the NY Marketplace and chose directly from there. Another WTF moment. And, oh yes, that $65 penalty that the IRS will issue you if you don’t have health insurance by January 1, 2014 turned out to be $282, based on my income. Oh, and another yes, if my income didn’t rise by $5,000 this year, I’d have to go on Medicaid which means if you are on Medicaid and own a home, when you die, the government takes your house after your death in order to pay themselves back for that so-called ‘free’ health insurance you’ve been collecting.
More lies and deceit.
I don’t even know what the Marketplace costs are. (I guess you have to pass the bill before you can read what’s in the bill). Because in order to find out the costs of anything, you have to register and tell the government every single thing about yourself and everybody else who lives in your household. Word on the street is, if and when you do finally find out what your new insurance plans are going to cost AND you attempt to ‘opt-out’ of Obamacare, a warning is issued to you regarding the penalties. The IRS let’s you know they will take the penalty money right out of your checking account if you don’t pay. AND if you don’t have the money to pay, they place a lien against your home. Read this notice here to learn all about it.
What a joke. I give up. Maybe I’ll try back next month. Maybe I won’t try again at all.
From the policies I did see the pricing for, the private ones (that didn’t cover my area anyway), if I got the Silver plan, it would cost me $430 a month (I am paying $283 a month now, so that’s an increase of 34%), my deductible would go from $1200 on my current plan to $1900 on the new plan (that’s an increase of 60%, my co-pay would go from $20 to $30 (that’s a 50% increase) and I would go from full coverage after my deductible was met on my old plan to only having 80% of my medical bills covered after my deductible was met on the new plan (that’s a 100% increase as far as I am concerned!).
Last but not least, the NY Times put this article out today, that despite all the best laid plans and effort, millions and millions of poor people in America will still NOT have health insurance. WTF?? Wasn’t that the whole point of The Affordable Health Care Act? To insure the 30 million poor people who had no health care? And I don’t fall for the rhetoric that this is the Republicans fault. Give me a break! Obama is the god-damn president for Pete’s sake. He, and he alone had the power to get all of this accomplished.
What a joke!
And people call me crazy? Yeah, right……..
