Just to let everyone know, my visit with my daughter and grand daughter went very well yesterday. The ride into New York City went smoothly. The parking fee on Sunday was only $25 for a full day vs $60 for a weekday. My daughter contributed $20 towards the fee so DH and I only had to pay $5 out of pocket plus a $1 tip. We got great gas mileage on our car (41.5 miles per gallon) so that was another plus to our budget. The meal I prepared (southern fried chicken, mashed potatoes, fresh baked apple tart with vanilla ice cream) went very well. Except for a small hunger pang from DH while driving, who scoffed down a southern fried chicken thigh in the car (note the photo: he only took two bites! I had to snap a photo because I couldn’t believe what he handed back to me!) everything arrived intact.
We all had a very lovely time. It was a beautiful, sunny, warm, bright blue autumn day. My little grand daughter felt so comfy in my arms she literally passed out from all my nursery singing and rocking in the chair that she settled into a very deep sleep.
On the ride back home, DH and I discussed that what really matters now to us is our family. Plain, pure and simple. Everything else is noise. I told my daughter the truth about our budget predicament. Things have been tight for us. She confessed things for her and her DH have been tight also since the birth of her daughter. They’ve had to hire a nanny to come in two days a week and the charge for that is $20 an hour! Welcome to NYC!
All in all, however, we banded together and put together a great day. We did it! We made it!
Here are a few photos I snapped with my iPhone. Note my grand daughter’s chunky thighs! Enjoy:
