One of my most favorite spots in New York City is the Grand Central Terminal. I have to pass through this magnificent building each and every time I travel to Manhattan. I never rush through the terminal, as most commuters do. Instead, I like to walk slowly through the building and just take in all the magnificence I can. I feel as if I were a queen walking through my castle and kingdom. That’s how beautiful Grand Central Terminal is.
Grand Central Terminal wasn’t always that way, as this 1999 CBS 60 Minutes video will show you. Back in the 1970′s the Terminal was in total ruin and a place New York City’s many homeless people would sleep at night. We may think we are living in a recession today, but as you will see in this video, the recession of the 1970′s hit New York City extremely hard.
It took Jackie Kennedy Onassis and a $20million dollar cleaning bill to get Grand Central back to its original glory. This video was made in 1999. We’ve come a long way, baby, since then. Happy Birthday, Grand Central Terminal! The eighth wonder of the world!

It’s one of my favorite spots too – we always go there just to stand and stare
I could stare for hours if it weren’t so crowded each time I am there! Amazing building. I’m glad they saved it.
